CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - One woman has died after being injured in a shooting near the Target on West 117th Street, according to Cleveland Police.

The shooting happened around 2:25 a.m. on Elmwood Avenue about a block from the shopping plaza.

Officers arrived on scene and found a vehicle crashed, according to police.

Inside the vehicle, police said, a 26-year-old woman was found in the driver’s seat of the car with multiple gunshot wounds to the legs and body.

A 23-year-old woman was also found with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and legs, according to police.

Officers rendered aid until EMS arrived, crews then transported both victims to MetroHealth.

The 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead, according to police.

Police said their investigation found the deceased is a former employee at the location at 12500 Elmwood Avenue, and the 23-year-old victim is a current employee.

There was a verbal altercation between the two victims and another employee and shots were heard in the area, according to police.

A person of interest has been identified.

“That’s just awful, I don’t know why someone would kill two girls at 3 o’clock in the morning,” said west side resident, Corinna Bartholomew.

Our team spoke to several people in the area they told us the crime in this part of Cleveland has gotten really bad, and they’ve seen more police around because of it.

“I heard they have police officers at that Giant Eagle all the time, so I stopped going there especially at night because I don’t know I don’t wanna get robbed or something,” said Bartholomew.

This matter remains under investigation.
