CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Police in Tallmadge are investigating a shooting that left three people injured.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House rental facility on West Avenue, according to the Tallmadge Police Department.

Investigators said three shooting victims were treated at a Tallmadge-area hospital.

The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

The shooting happened right near Town Square.

“I’m pretty sure they were just hosting some sort of event for kids earlier that day,” said Michael Trautman, a resident of Tallmadge. “So it’s just sort of a scary thing in that area with there being a park right there, baseball fields, and especially close to all these businesses and residential places”

Trautman heard the shots fired and believes he saw the group responsible drive off.

He gave a statement to police.

Tallmadge Police Chief Ron Williams says while the the community is understandably shaken, they aren’t in danger.

“This was an act between two groups of people,” said Chief Williams. “There’s not a random group of people creating crime and shooting people in Tallmadge, this was two groups that ended up here last night.”

Officers from Akron and Mogadore assisted at the crime scene.

There have been no arrests made.
