Faceoff on the Lake features Ohio State, Michigan hockey teams
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Faceoff on the Lake, a hockey matchup between Ohio State and University of Michigan, will be the first-ever hockey game played at FirstEnergy Stadium, the stadium says.
Gates open at 2:30 p.m. and puck drop is at 4 p.m., the release says.
Canisus vs. John Carroll are the first teams to kick the events off Friday.
Michigan vs Ohio State will follow Saturday and other games through March.
Rob McBurnett with the Browns shared his thoughts ahead of the historic events.
“We’re excited, and we are hoping to have about 45,000 maybe even 50,000 fans here at FirstEnergy Stadium on Saturday,” said McBurnett. “This will be an electric atmosphere at the game.”
The game is the second in a string of events at the stadium, including an open skate at the stadium.
Jenner Tekancic said you and your family can also join the fun.
“We will have thousands of guests here that are educators, teachers, students from programs that we have engaged with throughout the state of Ohio,” said Tekancic. “So, they will be able to see first time this game matchup.”
McBurnett told 19 News this is something new and historic for the stadium. Although it is the first, it probably won’t be the last.
“It’ll be a different look obviously with the ice on the field but it’s going to be a ton of fun,” said McBurnett.
Tickets can be bought online or at the ticket office starting at noon, the stadium says.
