CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Cleveland Fire Department received a “gym-nerous” donation on Friday from Planet Fitness in the form of new exercise equipment.

The international fitness company donated an elliptical and treadmill to Cleveland Fire Station No. 22, located in the city’s Glenville neighborhood.

“You know all the equipment that you see was purchased by the firemen themselves so when you get into the ellipticals, the treadmills, it gets pretty expensive. So it’s always nice to have somebody who’s willing to donate something like that. We absolutely appreciate Planet Fitness bringing that stuff down to us,” said Lieutenant Jeffrey Vollmer.

The department tweeted a “thank you” to the company following the equipment’s successful delivery.

“Glad we could be of service to the ones who are consistently serving our communities,” the company responded.

“Firefighters are industrial athletes, we need to stay in shape. Our jobs are very taxing, we need to be in top shape, ready to respond and so this exercise equipment will help Cleveland Firefighters be ready to respond,” said Lieutenant Mike Norman.
