First responders battle vacant building fire in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - First responders battled a 2-2-2 alarm fire early Monday morning at a vacant building in Cleveland.

Officials with the Cleveland Fire Department said the fire started at 12:26 a.m. in the area of Miles Avenue and East 135th Street.

Officials said 9 trucks and 40 firefighters responded to the blaze.

Officials said nobody was hurt in the blaze.

Lt. Mike Norman with Cleveland Division of fire said it took double the resources and manpower to battle the flames.

This blaze just the latest in a string of fires so far this year, including a house fire on the east 124th street on Feb. 28th and a manufacturing plant went up in smoke in the city’s Clark Fulton on March 1st.

Thankfully, none of these fires are the work of a arsonist.

“If they see that there is a pattern, there are lot of mechanisms that we use to notify the public to make sure they are aware of if we have some concerns about it” said Lt. Norman.

Officials confirmed the fire caused $50,000 in damages.

Officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
