The calendar still says August, but high school football season is in season around northeastern Ohio. Week two of the 2022 high school football season provided exciting action all over the Cleveland area.
Contract tracing conducted by a coach and school nurse found 12 football players who were in close contact with the two who tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, the Westlake superintendent said.
“They say the team that’s playing today wasn’t exposed, so that’s why they’re allowing the football players and the band to perform today,” said Dawn Kozlina, whose son is on the Madison football team.
The school district said it all relates back to an incident during football practice in the auxiliary gym on May 24 that was caught on the school’s cameras. That’s when a 17-year-old student-athlete says he was forced to sit in the middle of the gym and eat pork in the form of a pepperoni pizza against his religious beliefs.
